Another ProLiant 5000R Newbie

I saw another question about the processor failure problem on ProLiant 5000 under Redhat 8.0

Redhat 8.0 running on the machine that is not attached to the internet. It is not dual-boot, just Redhat 8.0 SMP

Getting the same three of four processor failure and I do not have the support CDs from HP (yet). If I get them will they run under Linux?

Is there a BIOS upgrade to use with Linux (did not find one on the site other than for smart array 2)? I have not seen any RPM files, etc either, mostly .exe and suspect they would not work.

I also have an 850R wih no CD-ROM drive, what will be involved in taking care of that one?

Thanks in advance

It shouldn't be necessary to use the Smart Start CD (it's just more convenient), unless there's an array controller installed. The processor failure messages are showing up during post? I would recommend downloading the System Configuration Utility from:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html

There doesn't appear to be an online bios flash for RedHat on this server. I would recommend downloading the "offline" version from:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/7548.html
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

I've noticed that as well. What's worked for is, once the OS is installed, reboot and hit F10 for system setup. Select configure hardware, and you should get a message saying the "system has detected a previous failure, has it been fixed?" or something like that. Select yes. After closing out and rebooting it shouldn't happen again.

Glen:
All I get from F10 is a message saying there is no partitioning spftware on this system :(

Ah, yes thanks guys! I finally got past that .exe hangup and read the darn instructions :-) My bad. Will try this tonight when I get back home to the machine.
