ArcServe 9.01 generates SCSI-Error with HP Ultrium 460i
Hello,
i installed a Proliant ML570 G2 with a HP Ultrium 460i.
The tape drive is connected to the embedded LVD-SCSI-Controller on the motherboard of the ML570. There is no other device on the same SCSI-Bus. The SCSI-Bus is terminated with an active terminator. (Original cable out of the box from the ML570).
I think there is no hardware error on the server, SCSI-bus and the tape-drive and the tape. The HP-test-software delivered with the tape drive successfully completed all test on the configuration.
The Software is Windows 2000 Server SP3.
Arcserve 9.01 Patch 4A and Device Support Patch 2.
When i try to make a backup with "compare tape to disc" and Arcserve rewinds the tape between the backup and the compare i get a SCSI-Bus error in then System-Log:
Das Ger├Г┬дt \Device\Scsi\adpu160m1 hat innerhalb der Fehlerwartezeit nicht geantwortet.
(device \Device\Scsi\adpu160m1 did not respond in the errorwaittime)
If i make a backup without compare, and then try to restore a file from the end of the tape all works fine.
Has anyone come across this ?
Thanks Marcus

Re: ArcServe 9.01 generates SCSI-Error with HP Ultrium 460i
1. Verify you have the most current SCSI driver.
2. Check the ArcServe web site for any known issues.

Re: ArcServe 9.01 generates SCSI-Error with HP Ultrium 460i
Hello Terri,
thank You for Your answer.
The event code in the system log is really 9.
The driver ist adpu160m.sys version 6.1.645.00 from Adaptec.
That driver comes out from the HP Smartstart 6.40 i think.
Best Regards
Marcus

Re: ArcServe 9.01 generates SCSI-Error with HP Ultrium 460i
1. Use PSP (Proliant Support Pack) 7.00a to update all possible software. The update is here:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/18416.html
2. I assume you have the HP Management Agents installed. Verify after PSP update that you do have Management Agents 7.0.
3. In Windows 2000, go into Control Panel - HP Management Agents. From the SERVICE tab, have the following services in the "Inactive Agents" window:
SCSI Info
Fibre Array Information
Remote Insight Information
4. Make sure RSM (Removable Storage Manager) is set to manual and stopped as a Windows 2000 Service.
5. The driver for the Ultrium tape drive itself should be a ArcServe driver.
6. Use Library & TapeTools to update tape drive firmware (if necessary). Also run the Ultrium Acceptance Test. The default test in L&TT is DEVICE ANALYSIS. Use the drop-down list to select the other tests.
Keep us posted!
