Array expansion DL380 G6 / P410i

Hi I have an ESXi server and I need to expand the RAID5 array from 3 to 5 disks. I boot up using the bootable ACU utility CD, but there is no options to expand/extend. Any ideas?

The only reference that I can find relates to the P410 (no i), and is on the top of page 4 here: http://www.dectrader.com/docs/set5/13201_na.pdf

Does the p410i require the BBWC module to do offline array expansion?

By the way, I was using ACU version 8.2 and the p410i has firmware 2.74.

The P410i does require the BBWC in order to perform a logical drive expansion. I just had to order the BBWC in order to perform this operation with a Windows 2008 R2 server. The battery unit will also need time to charge (overnight) before the option is available.

Oh I almost forgot, here is a good site with videos on how to perform certain hardware tasks. You can find adding the battery backup unit video in the list to the right side of the page.

Thanks for the link. Yea, I ended up dropping $500 on the BBWC. I hope HP doesn't start nickle and diming us to death. This option was always available and included on most controllers in the past.

MGaccess, business, you know...

But this thing exists from the implementation of the SAS/Sata controllers (for example DL580 G4 also needs a similar kit for enabling expansion, because it can operate with p400, e200 and so on)
And - yeah, you're totally right about the old Smart Arrays 5x and 6x
