Autoloader 1/8 Ultrium 960 with DL380G3 (Smart Array 5i)

I want to install a HP Storageworks 1/8 Ultrium 960 autoloader on an DL380G3 connected to the external SCSI-port on the back of the server. Windows 2003 Server recogizes the autoloader and displays in device-manager, but veritas backup exec cannot install the appropriate driver. Is it true (as I read in other threads), that the integrated smart array 5i controller doesn't support autoloader connected to the external scsi-port? which additive scsi-controller is suggested?

Autoloader use 2 SCSI ID (one for robot, one for tape) therefore you cannot connect Autoloader to SmartArray controller.
You can buy and install
64-Bit/133-MHz Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI host bus adapter (268351-B21)
for Ultrium 960 autoloader.

The problem lies with the fact that the external port of the 5i controller does not support multiple LUN's. Only LUN0 can be seen. The 1/8 Autoloader uses multiple Lun's. You must use a SCSI controller which supports multiple LUN's.

Here is the Autoloder detail taken from the manual.

The HP StorageWorks 1/8 Ultrium 960, Ultrium 448 and Ultrium 232 Tape Autoloaders and the
DLT VS80 Tape Autoloader use a single SCSI ID and dual LUNs to control the tape drive (LUN 0) and autoloader robotic (LUN 1). These models require an HBA that supports LUN scanning. If it is not enabled, your host system will not scan beyond LUN 0 and will fail to discover the library. It will just see the tape drive.

I hope this helps.
