Re: Automatic power up

You could setup a script to reboot the server - but to power it off and then power it on, say an hour later, couldn't be done.

Re: Automatic power up

Thanks, but I would want to know if exists a solution at BIOS level to set a power up time.
Tanks.

Re: Automatic power up

Hi,

Maybe the "Wake on LAN" feature could help you in that. I have not tested, but as far as I know, it works. When the server is powered off, some kind of communication against the NIC MAC Address could start the server ( don't tested, so I can not tell you the command or tool that can initiate that ).
Try searching related info in GOOGLE.

Hope this helps.
Kind regards,

Re: Automatic power up

There is nothing in the BIOS that will let you do this, but it is possible using a combination of the hp Remote Insight Lights Out Edition (RILOE) II card, which lets you do remote control of the server (including power up/down). You would lalso need to be running hp Insight Manager 7 (which is free with every ProLiant server) on a different server. You can use the scripting capabilities of Insight Manager to power up or down the server via the RILOE card.

Information on Insight Manager can be found at:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/cim7-description.html

and in particular, you might want to look at the User Guide at

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/management/cim7/CIM7UG.pdf

or at the Technical Reference Guide at:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/management/cim7/CIM7TRG.pdf

and look for scripting.

Information on the RILOE card can be found at:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/riloe2/index.html

Thanks,
Doug
