B140i Controller and Physical drive write cache
Hi All,
One of my client who is planning to buy a DL 180 Gen 9 server asked about "enabling disk write cache in physcial disk".
I want to know when RAID is configured using B140i controller, will that allow " disk write cache in the physcial disk", since B140i doesn't have cache with FBWC?
Awaiting for reply..
Rrds,

Re: B140i Controller and Physical drive write cache
The SSA user guide says yes for P series Gen9 smart array controllers, but likely it is also valid for the dynamic sa controllers.
However, there is a higher risk to lose data:
"...Because physical drive write cache is not battery-backed, you could lose data if a
power failure occurs during a write process. To minimize this possibility, use a backup power
supply..."
A backed up write cache for the controller makes sense and is probably much faster.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I too have the same opinion. It will work with P series controllers.

Re: B140i Controller and Physical drive write cache
Maybe someone who read this and has access to any Gen9 server can check, if this option is there in SSA controller configuration for the B140i.
However, even this feature will bring a minor performance + it will create a higher risk for losing data ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: B140i Controller and Physical drive write cache
Hello,
I have an ML30 Gen9. The option to enable physical disk write cache is available in SSA controller configuration for the B140i.
