BINIT Errors in Insight Mgr
I am getting seemingly random reboots on a Proliant 6400R running WinNT 4.0 SP5. Insight Mgr reports An unrecoverable system error (BINIT) has occured'. No memory dumps. System Roms are all up to date, but the management agents and SSD are about 6mths old. Any ideas? Will the software updates fix this?
Thanks
Scott

Re: BINIT Errors in Insight Mgr
The usual recommendton is to rule out updates because it's (usually) a easy thing to do. The source could be corrupted or misbehaving software, failing memory, processor or add-on card. Check the management log (via insight manager) to see if it is an ASR (automated server reset) - if not you may want to update roms, firmware and drivers or not. Normal troubleshooting methodology appplies - what else is in common - are the times in a certain range? what applicatons or services are doing what when the reboots occur? If the reboot interval is short enough, run the server over a weekend in another operating system (like diagnostics, or dos) performing some function - like a continous batch file or memory diagnostics - if the server reboots while not running NT - you've pretty much ruled out software, and can concentrate on looking harder at the hardware components.
