BL680c G5 is 32 bit or 64 bit?

Hi I have a BL680c G5 with Quad core xeon processors installed. Just want to confirm that is it a 32 or 64-bit based architecture.

When i go in product bulletin, under OS support section of BL680c Server both Windows 32 bit and 64 bit are mentioned.

Which processor support whihc architecture please clarify

x86 supports which platform?

AMD64/EM64T support which platform?

What is the difference between EM64T and Itanium 64-bit.

Re: BL680c G5 is 32 bit or 64 bit?

Hi Khurram,

x86 reffers to 32-bit instructions set, told in other words supports only 32 bit apps.

x86-64 or the so called from the vendors AMD64/EM64T is an extension of the CPU instruction set to add support for 64-bit apps too.

The Xeon imlement the EM64T, Opterons the AMD64 and in this way support both 32 and 64 Bit applications.

IA 64(Itanium Architecture) uses 64Bit instruction set and has nothing to do with the other 2 - it is absolutely different architecture.

In other words the Proliants have x86(32-bit) architecture. The Integrity servers( BL860c) are with "64-bit architecture".

Hope this clears it somehow :)
