I have a DL380 G3 with an SA 5i that has a bad battery, so write caching has been disabled. I wanted to find out whether it's easy to replace the battery module (are they sold on ebay if HP no longer sells them?), or can I upgrade to a newer SA card, and will it be able to inherit my logical drive configuration. The server is running Windows 2008 server.
TIA,
David.

Solution
Hi David,
The replacement spare part for the battery is: 260740-001 Battery : 4.8V NiMH battery pack board - 360mAh, Battery Backed Write Cache (BBWC) enabler for Smart Array 5i Plus controller.
I checked in http://partsurfer.hp.com/ and that part is available in stock for ordering.
To replace the battery refer the Service and Maintainance guide for DL380 G3 page 42: http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00065010/c00065010.pdf
Hope this information helps you.
Regards,
Raj.

Re: Bad battery on Smart Array 5i - DL380 G3 - Can I upgrade the SA card?
Hi David,
Previously forgot to mention about the upgrade to a newer SA card. Yes, you could upgrade to a newer SA card and it will inherit the logical drive configuration.
You could go for any of the below SA cards, no seperate drivers are required for windows 2008:
Smart Array 5302/128 Controller 283552-B21
Smart Array 5304/256 Controller 283551-B21
Smart Array 6402/128 Controller 273915-B21
Smart Array 641 Controller 291966-B21
Smart Array 642 Controller 291967-B21
Regrads,
Raj.
