COMPAQ 53C710 SCSI
I would like to install Linux on my OLD COMPAQ 5/66, but I can not find any support for the 53C710 SCSI controler. I have tried EVERY SCSI controler on the Redhad device disk and I have searched the internet for a driver. Is there anyway I can make Linux run using this EISA SCSI controler with the 53C710 chip set. I have tried the NCR drivers, but they did not work.

Re: COMPAQ 53C710 SCSI
I ran into this problem last night. Just looked through the FAQ section, and they had a link to a site with a driver: http://www.sleepie.demon.co.uk/ncr53c710/
Looks like a little work. Hope it works!

Re: COMPAQ 53C710 SCSI
Thank you for the input!! I am not an advanced Linux user so it may take me a bit. But I do believe I have everything I need now to make it work on this old server. I also have two 486/66's COMPAQ servers (very old) that have the same 53C710 chip set so I am thinking this should work for them also. Thanks again!

Re: COMPAQ 53C710 SCSI
Yes, you can install the Linux OS onto older Compaq systems that are using the NCR 53C710 SCSI controller using the driver from the http://www.sleepie.demon.co.uk/ncr53c710 web site.
These older systems in most cases are also using an integrated TI TLan network controller. You can download the Linux driver for this chip set from this web address.
http://tlan.kernel.dk
Note: The older Compaq systems are not certifided or the Linux OS. The SMP architecture used in the Proliant 2000 and 4000 models is an older version that is not compatiable with the SMP support that is shipping in the current distributions of the Linux OS. If you install the Linux OS onto these older mulit-processor systems, only one processor will be seen and used by the Linux OS.
