CPU Upgrade Question
I have a Proliant ML110 G3 with a 3GHz Pentium 4. I want to upgrade to a dual-core Pentium D. System specs say that with the E7230 chipset it can b upgraded to Pentium D, but only specifies the Pentium D 920, 930, & 940. My question is...shouldn't the ML110 G3 be capable of supporting the Pentium 945, 950 and 960 also?

Re: CPU Upgrade Question
hi,
the BIOS plays the role here.
To support newer CPUs , microcode is added to the BIOS. Since the server is retired from HP's side, this CPUs will never be supported...

Re: CPU Upgrade Question
TY for your response Blazhev. Even tho the Pentium D 945, 950 and 960 have the same architecture and specs as the Pentium D 920, 930, & 940, u think what u stated still holds true? I figure I should be able to upgrade with the latter 3 just as easily as with the former 3.
