CPU compatability with DL385

I just received a used DL385. BIOS A05. I popped two processors in it and I get the following message at startup (from memory):

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Processor 1 - AMD Opteron 280 (2.4 GHz) (2MB 1MB) Processor 1 - AMD Opteron 280 (2.4 GHz) (2MB 1MB) Unsupported Processors, please reboot!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Does HP only allow their specific processor kits somehow? These are not CPU purchased from HP

Re: CPU compatability with DL385

I am in a bit of a catch 22 - without a processor that works, I cannot start this machine up in order to update the firmware.

However, I don't think this is the issue. It is running A05 08/22/2005 firmware. From the version release info, in the 08/22/2005 release they included support for Dual Core 2.4GHz Opterons (280).

I have tried each of the Opteron 280s singly, as well as an Opteron 275 that I have with the same error messaage.

Any other ideas?

Re: CPU compatability with DL385

Hi

What we would have to do is remove the 2nd processor, update the system rom and then install the 2nd processor.

The latest System ROM update is available here:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24448.html

Also provide the part numbers of both the processors.
