I have a Proliant 800 Server. While booting I got the following error message: "Processor in incorrect slot. System Halted!". Can someone help? Thanks!

Re: CPU in the wrong slot

You have 2 processor slots in your proc. cage.
It looks like your proc. is in the 2nd slot.
You have to put him into the 1st one. Also you have to move the PPM (Proc. Power Modul) from slot 2 to slot 1 for PPM's.

You will find some pictures in the attachment.

Re: CPU in the wrong slot

Hi Marko,

I have tried your suggestion. In fact, the server was working fine for a long time. It was then rebooted and the error message showed. I have tried a different CPU, memory, PPM I even replaced the system board. I cannot access the BIOS. Do you have any other suggestion?

Re: CPU in the wrong slot

No I could not. F10 was not given to me as an option. The server would not even boot from a diskette!

have you tried to boot it from system startup diskettes, or Smartstart? if you ar eable to boot form them , you can then go to BIOS setup.

Re: CPU in the wrong slot

Hello. Does your system have the settings printed on the panel? If so there might be a switch on your board for cpu and or cmos clearing.
I hope that this might help.

Re: CPU in the wrong slot

Bring System down Completely to Minimum HW configuration. Processor Board, I/O Board, Power Supply, you can disconnect every PCI card and Media drives. Pull one CPU out and one PPM/VRM.
Find System Maintenance switch Box enable Switch #6 â wait till POST message warn you about switch. Restart Server see if Error still present with one CPU Swap them test Second One, after Test two of them.
Verify System ROM to be Latest

If necessary Update, when min Config Connect only Floppy drive additionally enable switch #4 to make it successfully
Step by step bring system back, add components, if works properly.

For F10 restore or Install use
