CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed

HP DL380 G3 servers display event id: 7000 for this service on bootup.

Event ID: 7000
Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Description:
The CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Has anyone had this error?
Thanks,

Re: CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed

It looks like you are literally missing operating system files.

Consider running chkdsk to verify the disk integrity.

KOV:
The link you posted is for "OpenView Storage Mirroring Service" failing not the CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol.

John Ward:
I have run the chkdsk utility on the server with no change.

This error only seems to appear on power up of the server.

Re: CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed

I appreciate your help with this, I understand that the error is indicating a missing file or component however I have been unsuccessful in finding out what exactly is missing.

In speaking with other techs, we believe CSCNDIS5 NDIS is something related to the HP software on the DL380 server.

Perhaps someone knows of a file listing of standard installed programs and their filenames to which I can compare what is currently installed?

Re: CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed

Just go with search of CSCNDIS5 from regedit.exe - where ever you find it will tell you where it belong too, most likely to O/S itself. Possibly Network Diagnostic - you have any Compaq /Network Diag Installed ?

Re: CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed

Searching Registry Found the following:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CSCNDIS5\0000]
"Service"="CSCNDIS5"
"Legacy"=dword:00000001
"ConfigFlags"=dword:00000000
"Class"="LegacyDriver"
"ClassGUID"="{8ECC055D-047F-11D1-A537-0000F8753ED1}"
"DeviceDesc"="CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver"
"Capabilities"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CSCNDIS5\0000\Control]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\CSCNDIS5]
"Type"=dword:00000001
"Start"=dword:00000003
"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001
"ImagePath"=reg_expand_sz:\??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\CSCNDIS5.SYS

This last entry shows the image path with a "\??\" in front. Is this normal or should it be removed?

Re: CSCNDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed

I have not seen that driver on any HP server I have worked with. Does it have a non-HP NIC, perhaps?
