Can PC2700 memory work on PC3200 board on DL585?

Anyone know if I can install pc2700 DIMMS on a pc3200 proc/memory board on a DL585 G1?

Look at this that I found from the quickspecs for the DL585:

PC2700 only supported on 2.4 GHz and faster single core models and all dual core models.
PC2700 memory support requires -002 or greater processor boards
Maximum 128 GB (PC2700 DDR SDRAM)

It's weird...on paper it states that PC2700 memory can only go on a processor/memory board with a -002 or greater part number. Yet at this site, they have successfully installed PC2700 on the p/n# 012567-001 proc/mem boards. This was done back in October & no issues have been encountered.
