FW version 1.82 should work just fine, what you can do is update the server's BIOS from

Anyway, in order to install the OS on the machine there's no need to use a floppy, so try to boot from SmartStart CD and deploy the server from there.

Yeah ta, but I'm not trying to install an OS, just boot from a DOS floppy to upgrade Emulex HBA firmware..

If it's a Emulex and Windows, you can use lputilnt.
Use the right firmware and upgrade.

With the ILO, did you close the virtual media page after selecting? If you did, the connection is broken, you must leave it open!

Good news all! I had someone physically attend the server and stick the Firmware 7.50 CD into it - it booted from it, I flashed everything(!) and subsequently booted from a remote floppy.

The most likely explanation is that there was a problem with the firmware on the iLO....

Mate, I think if I'd have re-flashed uit with 1.82 the result would have been the same!

It was interesting to run the 7.50 Cd though, the UI is quite different to its predecessors..
