Can't configure Gen8/Gen9 IPV6 Ilo settings

I have here an Ipv6 only network and I want let the datacenter people

set up some dl380/dl360 Gen8/Gen9.

I send them the ipv6 network config for the ilo's. I got the feedback
that it is not possible to configure the ipv6 settings via F8 or smart
deployment.

How can we configure the settings during inital setup?

Re: Can't configure Gen8/Gen9 IPV6 Ilo settings

Hi,

IPv6 settings for iLO is possible configure in Intelligent Provisioning (IP). IP can start by pressing F10 during POST initialization --> Activate IP (some wizard during initial IP start) and then select Perform Maintenance --> iLO configuration. Ilo Configuration utility will start and you are able to configure IPv6 for iLO interface.

Here you should be able to select DHCP, v4 or v6:

Thats the settings for the "normal" network port for downloading firmware updates.. not for the ilo ip address

Did you try the ILO webpage?

Re: Can't configure Gen8/Gen9 IPV6 Ilo settings

I was complaining that I can'T configure the ILO4 Ipv6 settings during
inital setup. That means I have the bare metal server without os or the
possibility to connect to the ILO web interface (cause no Ipv4 and
Notebook available)

We send our Hardware to the datacenter and the people ther do the
unpacking and rack installation ( including cableing and configure the
ILO through the BIOS / Smart Deploy on the System). We do then the
Switch configuration and OS Installation from remote.

NOW there is no possibility for the datacenter people to configure the
Ipv6 Settings!! They have only console access to the systems!

Console access would allow them access to Intelligent Provisioning (F10) during POST as stated above they can then configure the iLO IPv6 settings.

One caveat for IPv6 is you must be using the dedicated iLO port, if you have iLO in shared port mode IPv6 isn't supported

Another option is to put the Scripting Toolkit on a USB key and create a script the runs hponcfg to configure the IPv6 settings. You could even get fancy and create settings files based on server serial number and the script would apply the correct settings automagically.

Example network settings file for HPONCFG:

Re: Can't configure Gen8/Gen9 IPV6 Ilo settings

Dedicated ILO port is fine.

But we need to configure the ilo from the Maschine without OS installed or IPv4 connection.

No via Inteligent Provisioning it is only possbile to set Ipv6 for the network ports( eth0-eth4) not for the ILO port.

I have tested it today on three different systems.

See my screenshot above!

Re: Can't configure Gen8/Gen9 IPV6 Ilo settings

Since it isn't a simple task like setting a v4 address obviously, I would consider to set a v4 address first, connect the browser to the ILO and complete the config. I never dealt with v6 ILO addresses so far.  I would assume someone at the DC has a laptop and a cable. Another possibility would be a v6 DHCP server.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
