Can't get NIC NC 3163 on DL380 work with Redhat 7.2
Hi,
I am new to Linux. I am trying to get Linux 7.2 to recognize the built-in
NC3163 network card on my Compaq DL380. Installation went fine except for
the network card. When machine reboot and if I do ifconfig -a then I can
see eth0 is up and running with correct IP, netmask and broadcast. When I
try to ping another machine/default router IP on the network then I got
message Destination Host Unreachable. I went to Compaq website and down
load the rpm for the network card on my DL380 that they said working with
Red Hat 7.2 but after installed and configure I still have the same problem.
When I use the GUI on GNOME Network Configure to view my network card, the
IRQ is always said Unkown. I verify from BIOS that the IRQ is 10. I change
the setting to 10 and reboot the machine but after that the OS is not
recognize/bring up the eth0 when the machine reboot. I can bring up the
interface manually but it's still can't ping any other machine on the
network. I can always ping his localhost and his IP address. Can someone
please help? Thank You.

Re: Can't get NIC NC 3163 on DL380 work with Redhat 7.2
It is definitely not a network problem.
I use the same network connection and load Redhat 7.2
on a Dell Optiflex GX110 and it is working fine. I can ping/telnet to other
machine on the network. I also put the same connection on an SUN Solaris 8
workstation and it is working fine.

Which NIC driver are you using? eepro100 or e100? You want to make sure it's the e100 driver.
