Can you install Windows 2003 on Proliant 1600 and 3000 servers?
The problem is this:
The latest version of SmartStart you can run on a Proliant 1600 or 3000 is Ver 5.5.
SmartStart Ver 5.5 doesn't (as far as I can tell) offer Windows 2003 as an install option.
Presumably once you've built your array etc you could boot directly from the 2003 CD?
Also are there Windows 2003 drivers for the 1600. They do exist for the 3000 (once you've installed 2003!)

Re: Can you install Windows 2003 on Proliant 1600 and 3000 servers?
Hello:
I have had success installing 2003 on an older server (DL360 G1). Use the Smart Start cd to do an assisted install. Chose 2000 as the OS (even though this is not what you want) and it will ask for a profile diskette (the How To is posted below). Let SS configure your array on the 3200 and then it will reboot and install the F10 partition. Once you are asked to remove the SSCD do so and load the 2003 disk. The driver is native so it will find it on boot. 2003 will seem to hang for about 2 minutes and then continue on without any issues. Once the OS is loaded download Support Paq 7 for 2003 and then will update everything.

Good luck

Just remember if you do an assisted install from the cd, it will ask for a "profile diskette". If you don't have one you can make one by opening up Notepad on another machine, do not type in any characters at all, go to Save As, change the file type to all files, and save the file to a floppy disk as spd.ini. This will be your user profile diskette.
