Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

What server model do you have?

DL320 G_?

If you say "firmware CD" - what release do you have?

As said, there are multiple sources from where you can get the array controller type.

Hope this helps!

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

The machine is a DL320G5s. If I'm not mistaken the Smart Array controller is an SC44Ge. I updated the firmware on the SC44Ge to the latest available from HP but unfortunately when I run the firmware update for the hard drives, it still doesn't find the hard drives.

Firmware CD Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component for Linux - DF036ABAA7, DF072ABAA8, DF072BB6BC, DF146BB6C2, DF146ABAA9, DF300BB6C3, and DF300ABAAA drives
This Smart Component provides firmware for the following drive models:DF036ABAA7, DF072ABAA8, DF072BB6BC, DF146BB6C2, DF146ABAA9, DF300BB6C3, and DF300ABAAA
This package can install version HPD8.

This program consists of two phases: device discovery and device update.
No device will be updated until you answer 'Are you sure?'.

Do you want to run device discovery? (yes/no): yes
Finding hardware. This may take a few minutes.
No devices have been found yet.

There is no device that can be updated.
As part of the reboot process, you must power cycle the server and any external array storage devices.

Unfortunately the firmware you linked to above (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=
us&prodNameId=3675981&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1127655&swLang=8
&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54) requires either EFI or the Offline Diagnostic Tools. The first I don't have access too and unless I'm mistaken the other only works with the Integrity/Itanium systems.

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

This is not a smartarray controller, see

Hope this helps!

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

Then I have to admit that I can't find the version of Smart Array controller used by this machine. I don't see anything in the start up that refers to the Smart Array controller.

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

I would suggest to boot the smartstart CD (not firmware DVD!) and run the ACU - this will show you exactly what you have.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

Like the other utilities I have used the ACU utility in the Smart Start CD (version 8.60) does not detect a Smart Array Controller.

Under diagnostics, the Array Controller is listed as the SC44Ge

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on 72G 15k SAS drives.

This controller can mirror disks, but it is not a smartarray.

However, you should be able to update the disk firmware.

Did you try to add the file to the maintenance CD?
