Centos 6.5 hangs on install Proliant ML310 G3

I am attempting to install Centos 6.5 onto an older server. It is an HP Proliant ML 310 G3 server. It has a 100 GB SATA RAID 5 partition configured on a Smart Array P600 controller.

The install detects the partition, but when I attempt to install, it hangs every time at some point of creating the file system. The message up at time of hang/lock is:

Creating ext4 filesystem on /dev/mapper/vg_servername-lv_root

Centos 5.2 installs fine on that server.

I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, or advice that anyone can give me.

Thanks.

Re: Centos 6.5 hangs on install Proliant ML310 G3

Hi,

Primary reason that I could say is that CentOS 6.x is not a supported or compatible OS for ML310 G3 server.

Check this URL for compatibility.

Secondary reason could be that drive has bad sectors or some errors, memory may have errors.

I would suggest to boot the server using a CentOS Live CD and do a memory test.

Thank You!
