You don't have any data on your h.D.D now?
Please tell me how many hard disk do you have right now on your servers?

Re: Change HDD with different size.

Hi,

what RAID configuration do the servers have?
do you have BBWC installed in the server?

if you are using RAID, and have BBWC you can use ACU tools to Extend the array, there are loads of posts in this forum detailing how.

hope that helps

Re: Change HDD with different size.

I have a smart array 6i whit the next information:

there is 6 disks installed

Parallel SCSI Array A with spare
Logical Drive 1 (28005MB) RAID 5

Physical Drive Port 2 - Drive 0 136.73GB
Physical Drive Port 2 - Drive 1 136.73GB
Physical Drive Port 2 - Drive 3 136.73GB

Parallel SCSI Array B with spare
Logical Drive 2 (140006MB) RAID 0+1

Physical Drive Port 2 - Drive 4 136.73GB
Physical Drive Port 2 - Drive 5 136.73GB

Physical Drive Port 2 - Drive 2 136.73GB SPARE

how can i know if i have installed the BBWC??

I just have two disks with 300GB, can i only change two disk and left the others with less capacity??

Re: Change HDD with different size.

Hi,

if you launch the Array Configuration Utility, there is a section on detail of the SmartArray, and in there it will tell you if BBWC is installed.

please assign points if you found this helpful

Re: Change HDD with different size.

Hi Raul,

I think you need more 300GB drives to do what you want.

The disks in a RAID 5 should each be the same size. If they are not, you can use this formula to determine the size you get:

( (number of drives in array) - 1 ) X (size of smallest disk)

In your case that means adding only 2 larger drives to the RAID 5 provides no extra space. For the RAID 1 + hot spare, things are the same. You need to have the same data on both halves of the RAID 1, and having a 146GB try to replace a 300GB when there is a failure will not do the trick!

I recommend buying at least one more 300GB disk and then using the array configuration utility, available with the online tool or through SmartStart.

good luck, if you appreciate the answers we appreciate the points!
