Changing embedded Smart Array 6i from duplex to simplex

I have a DL380G4 that is using the embedded Smart Array 6i controller in a duplex configuration to control six 300GB drives in a 4+1 RAID 5 set w/ Spare. In it's current configuration, I can't use the external SCSI connection. I'm wondering if it would be possible to change this to simplex and still retain all of the data on the drives so I can attach an external MSA20. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,
Troy

Re: Changing embedded Smart Array 6i from duplex to simplex

FYI Just tried this on a similar server that we just brought out of production.

Results: Everything works just fine to switch from an Embedded Duplex configuration to an Embedded Simplex configuration. I didn't do any performance metrics to determine that impact the change may have had. I just wanted to be certain that an array that spanned the two channels in duplex mode would survive if reduced it down to one channel in simplex mode.

Hope that helps!
