Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

I've got 4 chassis running firmware version 2.10 and I'am looking to upgrade that to 2.20. Does anyone know how to do a firmware upgrade on the chassis? I'm unable to find any info on doing this.

Thanks,
John

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

Use 2.30 recomended !

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24088.html

For Windows Operating Systems:
├В┬╖ Click on Start -> Programs -> HP System Tools -> HP ProLiant BL rack upgrade utility
├В┬╖ Click on Browse to select the firmware image
├В┬╖ Select the enclosures you wish to upgrade.
├В┬╖ Click Start to begin the flash process.

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

Hey, Just one more question. Will upgrading the firmware brng down the Chassis? The 4 chassis I need to upgrade are all power supply chassis. I have two in each rack. I'm planning to do one at a time just in case.

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

I would recommend do one at time, Process take ~15 minutes per Enclosure do for Power also
Update will not cause Power down or etc, There should be no affect to production.

If you have any problems at Upgrade let us know

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

KOV, are you sure that 2.30 is recommended under all circumstances?

According to http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/6614.html the only change from 2.20 is support for chassis integrated SAN switches.

So far I have decided not to upgrade, but maybe you have some insight that could change that position :-)

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

management module
It is a self-contained micro-controller that:
communicates with the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management device on each server blade
communicates with the power management module attached to the rear of the power supply enclosure
monitors the power supplies and power enclosure
delivers alerts and status data to the server blade management module
and determines during the auto power-up sequence if adequate power is available for newly installed server blades

in one word: functionality for some newer devices with newer Firmware might depend from 2.30 for proper communication/power calculation
if you not adding any new Blades, patch panels or switches, you can ignore Update and use 2.20

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

Recommended that after you upgrade the firmware.....using a paper-clip.....hit
the reset button on each enclosure. This will
make sure the Management Modules have rebooted with the new firmware. This will not cause any Blade reboots and I have done
in live production environments many times.

Re: Chassis Enclosure firmware upgrade

The upgrade to 2.30 went smoothly on Saturday, but HPsim still shows the firmware being 2.10. What do I need to do in order for HPSIM to pick up on the firmware change?
Thanks,
