Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive Performance Problem

Hi,

Our mailserver has the following specs:

Compaq Proliant DL360G2
512 MB RAM
2 x 18,2 GB Mirrored Logical Drive connected to the Smart Array 5i Controller (system disk)
3 x 36,4 GB RAID 5 Logical Drive connected to the Smart Array 3200 Controller (data disk)
External Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive connected to the Compaq 64-Bit/66MHz Dual Channel Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter

VERITAS Backup Exec 8.6 is used to backup our Exchange 5.5. All of a sudden, the performance of our backup job degraded. I did some tests and noticed that even a backup of the system disk suffered poor performance. I decided to reboot the machine. During reboot, I noticed that the BIOS of the Compaq 64-Bit/66MHz Dual Channel Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter detected the external Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive all right, but the mode shown was 'ASYN'. Is this normal? I don' t think so. What can I do to resolve this problem?

Kind regards,
Werner

Use HP library & tape tools software to see if there are any problems with the drive - This can also be used to upgrade firmwae on the tbu also
