Compaq DL 380 forced 1gig connection

Hi everyone, I knopw this is probably gonna be a stupid question but I need to be sure. I have a DL 380 with a Gig card connected into a Gig port on a cisco switch. Currently the speed of the NIC is set to Auto I believe. I have just been asked by a colleague is it possible to force it to run at a Gig? Just like you can force a 100 meg card to run at 100meg rather than 10 meg if the switch / hub allows it. Thanks. Chris.

Off course you can do this.

you can set it to gigabit, but this options is usualy only available in HP network team & utilities, and not directly on the device view in windows.

hope this help.

You can force it using "HP Network Configuration Utility" or digging the adapter properties (Advanced -> Speed & Duplex)

Hi

This depends on the OS also if you have RedHat linux you cannot force it on the OS side it will auto negotiate with the switch and will work on Gig speed, in W2K or Windows 2003 you can force it, if the switch is autonegotiating then you should not force it.
