Compaq ProLiant DL380 HDD replacement RAID5
Currently there are 4 HDDs of 18.2Gb(7200rpm). The problem is that two of them are showing a red warning sign.
Could you please advise how can I replace them by new ones? Should I power down the server?
One more question is: Is it ok to use HDDs with other than 18Gb size and/or 7200rpm speed but having the same interface (SCSI ULTRA2)?
Regards,
Sergey.

Re: Compaq ProLiant DL380 HDD replacement RAID5
Or was this a RAID5+Hotspare configuration and maybe the drives didn't fail at the same time ?

Re: Compaq ProLiant DL380 HDD replacement RAID5
As 2 hdd showing failed
If possible recomnded try to take the backup ( No second thought in that )
Then try to re connect the 1 hdd then check it is trying to rebuild or not or still same problem presist
Or
visit this site
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1122.html
Run this utility
Hard Drive Identifier ( to check for faulty HDD )
M&P Patch ( for removing false error )
If this helped u do revert back,
Regards,
Prashant S

Re: Compaq ProLiant DL380 HDD replacement RAID5
Yes it is RAID5 + hotswap.
You are right drives gone not at the same time.
And thay are not faulty I hope. They just show red sign on the fromt panel but still operational.
Thanks

Re: Compaq ProLiant DL380 HDD replacement RAID5
We have ordered 2 drives, and awaiting for delivery. Then I will try to remove them one by one with rebuild.
Utility does not find any drives, I expect it is not for our drive type.
Thanks.

Re: Compaq ProLiant DL380 HDD replacement RAID5
With 2 drives showing solid amber and the system still being functional, I would suspect a faulty SCSI backplane on the cage as the drive lights come from there.
Have you checked the cabling for bent pins? Is the optional 2 drive cage installed on this server? Has the ROC firmware been updated?
