Compaq Proliant D380, Max Ultra 320 SCSI Disk size
Hi I was hoping someone can help answer a few questions.
I have a Compaq Proliant D380 server
with a separate disk array connected to it.
It currently has 7 disk in the array all
146.8 GB 10K Ultra320 SCSI.
My questions are
1) What is the Maximum Ultra320 SCSI disk I can get?
2) And Can I use mixed capacity disks in the SAN or will they all have to be 146.8GB?
The Array Controller is a "Smart array 5300"

Re: Compaq Proliant D380, Max Ultra 320 SCSI Disk size
Hi,
Depending upon the configuration (5304, 5302, etc..) up to 56 drives. The SA 5300 is Ultra3 not Ultra320, so you'll only get 160MB/s per channel according to the quick specs. The Ultra320 drives will work and "down-shift" to the controller's maximum throughput.
They also indicate that up to 300MB disk drives are _officially_ supported:
350964-B2 300GB 10,000 rpm, U320 Universal Hard Drive, 1"

Hope This Helps,
