Compaq ml370 g3 scsi onboard

I have tried hard to find this answer in the forums ,to no avail . Sorry if I missed it.I am trying to setup windows server 2003 on this server ,used bought from a surplus sight.I have 6 36 gig scsi drives attached to the hot swap back plane and the drives are found and bios loaded at boot. THe drives are attached to the onboard scsi controller aic 7899w.When running smart start of course its not recognized as an array, however it does allow me to format one disk and install the os. I cant seem to figure out how to format and access the other drives . Please for the love of my sanity any help would be appreciated.

Re: Compaq ml370 g3 scsi onboard

paul

use the firmware cd first
update all firmwares

then use the software cd boot from it follow the wizard to install that is the prefered way

this server has a 6402 controller which is supported by the smart start cd on the link i posted here

and about the controller standard is 6402

6404 has more channels and usually more cache normally 256

Re: Compaq ml370 g3 scsi onboard

It appears according to the link you sent me , my ml370 is not the high performance package which lists the 6402 standard.

Hope i can still be able to format all the drives without having to buy an array controller as well :(

Still hats off for all the information, You have saved me hours of fighting with this.

Re: Compaq ml370 g3 scsi onboard

Downloaded both disks and installed as per stated.

Definately do not havethe array controller ,no cards installed in server.

Tried the install after burning to disk first the firmware ,only 2 updates nessacary.

Then the smartstart , still no dice on formatting other drives only lists 1 36 gig as option.

Guess going to need that array after all to just format dives and access?

Re: Compaq ml370 g3 scsi onboard

Mark,

It seems you are as determined as I am to get this running .

On the post screen it lists HP Ultra 3 as the controller.

It then proceeds to search for and find each drive 1 at a time.

As it does so sequentially each hard drive light shows power then goes off again as the bios moves to next drive .

Moving the already formatted drive up to position 5 on the hard drive cage does keep its light, power , lit but in smart start you are only able to install o.s. to scsi lun 0. which is the bottom of the hot swap bay.

I think i got all your questions answered.

By the way 1 more thing....

I also tried the f9 , it only lists option to reset scsi id and reset scsi. Also of interest, after going completely through post an option to format appears , At least thats what i call it >> f10 , says it does not exist on this system.

Re: Compaq ml370 g3 scsi onboard

I think I need to clarify my last comment .

The system maybe missing the hard drive format rom?

If so what rompaq would that be?
