Compaq proliant power supply

I have a hotswap power supply (part no. 298581-001) that I'd like to test the voltage levels on myself, but I can't get it to come on unless it's in the chassis. Is there any simple way to get it to power up?

The PL3000 and PL5500 power supplies have an interlock feature that completes a circuit within the server. I do not know what leads to jumper to complete this circuit on the 750watt PS. Compaq/HP engineering never released the interconnect pinout as a document to refer to.

Have you tried using the HP diagnostics software to run tests against the power supply?

Thanks for going to the trouble to find that link.
I don't actually have a Proliant chassis around to test with, but I had the feeling that was about how it worked. Do you think it's as simple as shorting a pin to ground or to another pin, or is it possible that the PS is turned on by some more complex interface (like some signal on a digital bus or something)?

No... sorry. I cannot help you there. I know there are a bunch of connectors on the P/S but as to where they go and what each does, only HP knows...
