Compaq system configuration utility 2.48A: out of memory message

Hi,

I have just inherited a Compaq Prosignia 500 machine with 148MB RAM, 2 SCSI hds (2G and 9G) and a SCSI cdrom, and the plan is to install Redhat 7.1 on it.

I've got it to boot using the Compaq System Configuration Utility Version 2.48A, but when I install the Red Hat boot disk I get an out of memory error. Just booting from Red Hat standard boot.img doesn't recognise any of the SCSI stuff.

Can you help? Or is it landfill?

A similar sort of problem seems to be reported here:

Thanks in advance

Re: Compaq system configuration utility 2.48A: out of memory message

From Russian Compaq support I've got a reply that it is not possible to install RedHat 7.1 (or any Linux at all) on this model of server. I'm also getting "You don't have enough system memory to install Red Hat on this machine" error message every time I'm trying to install it on ProSignia 500 with 112MB of memory.

This problem solved. See http://www.carnall.demon.co.uk/prosignia_linux.htm for discussion.
