Compatible SAS drives

Working on a server which contains part number 953954.  1TB SAS 7.2K.  I need to replace one.  I am unable to source this part.  Can a mix and match similar items?  I am looking at 652753-B21.

Thanks

Re: Compatible SAS drives

I have unfortunately discovered that the drives are not compatible.

Part 953954 is a 2.5" drive.

Part 652753-B21 is a 3.5" drive.

Oooooooopppsss.......................

Re: Compatible SAS drives

Not my fault you have not explained in detail the first products (953954)

Re: Compatible SAS drives

Well that was very defensive.

I never blamed you.  I actually just posted in the off chance that if some one else were to come across this thread, they would not purchase the wrong product based on incorrect information.

But now you mention it, maybe your ADVISOR tag should be reviewed.  I sincerley hope that you are not a HP employee.

Re: Compatible SAS drives

The number given (953954) is not correct.

There are 2 formats, example:

652753-B21   -   the product number

653947-001   -   the spare part number

In most cases the spare part number is printed on a part (in case of disks most of the times at the front).

You can check the number at http://partsurfer.hpe.com , if you are unsure, you can put in the serial no. of the server at this page and you will get the BOM list and also a ist of possible spare parts.

The disk in this example has a smart carrier, this means it can be used in Gen8 and Gen9 servers.

Keep in mind, if you give more details in your question, you can get better answers.

This is a user to user forum, not an official HPE support site, users are trying to help you.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

"This is a user to user forum, not an official HPE support site, users are trying to help you."

I completely appreciate that.  What I don't appreciate is when someone offers incorrect advice, then gets defensive about it, and doesn't offer any more help.

Is it really that hard to apologise and try to work out where we went wrong?
