Configuring windows 2000 on hp proliant ml350 g3

I recently bought at a surplus auction an hp proliant ml350 g3, it so far has booted up and works fine, but I am unable to install windows 2000 server edition. every time I boot up and try to install, I get setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on you computer. do i need to get a scsi driver and install it during the setup? if I do can someone please point me in the proper direction?

thanks

hi

first you need yo determine which controller your server has, you can check that during post if server shows something like smart array or SCSI u320 or any other

basically if your server has a smart array you can use Smartstart CD if not you need to find out which controller your server has and load driver pressing F6

*** Smartstart CD only supports smart array controller and if your server got something like "Integrated Dual Channel Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter" you need to load driver manually

link for smartstart CD

Re: Configuring windows 2000 on hp proliant ml350 g3

thank you for the fast reply.
my current setup is a 2.4ghz/400mhz cpu, 1gig ram
the raid card is a slot 1 hp smart array 641 controller
i do get a 1770-slot 1 drive array - scsi drive firmware update recommended. hp ultra3 bios 3.02.3
scsi bios not installed!
*lol i can only assume this might be bad*
hp Ethernet boot agent v3.1.15

any assumptions on how i can continue,

o my drive configuration as far as i can tell is

physical * i have installed 3x 18.2 gig and 1x9.1gig

but i have the three 18.1 in raid 0 to make 50.4

the 9.1 gig drive is i guess bookable from the options i choose, but it does not seem to work, how do i make a drive bookable, i am new to scsi and i feel i might be doing this wrong.

hope that is enough information to help out

Re: Configuring windows 2000 on hp proliant ml350 g3

hi

yes since you have smart array 641 controller
you can use Smartstart CD that I linked before so that software will let you create an array(using array diagnostics utility) and install the OS, it is very straight forward

I would also recommend you to run firmware CD 8

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=316537&prodNameId=3279705&swEnvOID=181&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-2daedac9c17648c7905b64f8c3

which is a bootable CD to update firmware in server

Re: Configuring windows 2000 on hp proliant ml350 g3

hi again, well aside from the ID10T error i get lol it does not want to work.

al it does with that cd you recommended is it tries to boot from the cd, then it says non-system disk error replace and strike key when ready.

pxe-e61- media test failure, check cable
pxe-m0f- exiting hp pxe rom

what does that mean, i pulled open the case and re checked each cable but as far as ican tell they are all connected and properly installed.
