Connecting Ultrium 960 tape drive to Proliant DL380 server

I'm trying to install a Ultrium 960 rack-mount external SCSI tape drive to a DL380 G4. All six hard drive bays are filled. Do I need to install another PCI SCSI controller card or can I connect the drive directly to the VHDCI female port available? I'd like to use this tape drive to it's maximum potential. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
- Dave

From the quickspec
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12028_div/12028_div.html

Ultrium 960, Ultrium 448 and Ultrium 232 require one of the following HBA's:
64-Bit/133MHz Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter
64-Bit/133-MHz Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA G2
