Convert from Hardware Raid 0 to Hardware Raid 5

I have several 3000R's with the Smart Array 3200 controller. There are four 9.1 gb disks installed in each server. The array is configured in Raid 0 with four logical drives. 6gb, 8 gb, 15gb and 5.5gb. One server has two installed 18.2 gb disks. That server is configured with four logical drives in the array, 6gb, 8gb, 15gb and 5.7gb.

They are all running Windows 2000 Server and are also running as domain controllers and Exchange 2000 server.

I really want to convert to hardware Raid 5. Is their a known procedure that I can go through that will covert to Raid 5 AND be able to preserve the data?

Re: Convert from Hardware Raid 0 to Hardware Raid 5

Hello,
First of all the HDDs have to be the same size to be in RAID 5 configuration since you may encouter some issues due to dissimilarity in the sizes. Secondly to migrate to Raid 5 from Raid 0 you need to update the System BIOS and firmware of the Array controller before migrating. If you need further assistance please contact our tech support at 1-800-ok- compaq.
