Correct procedure to hotswap SAS drives
Hi
I have a DL385 G5 with hotswap SAS drives. This server runs vmware ESXi so I don't have the usual Insight web interface and I've not yet setup Insight Mgr to remotely manage it. What I see is a blinking amber light on one of the two system drives (RAID-1). Before I hotswap I just want to confirm that the blinking amber light does indicate the array is in good condition for a hotswap.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Correct procedure to hotswap SAS drives
assuming this server has a P4xxx internal raid controller.
you can download and install the hpacucli RPM to assist in viewing and configuring the internal raid controller.
it is found on bizsupport website, search for your raid controller then select drivers/software then pick your ESX version.
example output would look like below.
Smart Array P400 in Slot 0 (Embedded)
array A
physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 146 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:1:2 (port 1I:box 1:bay 2, SAS, 146 GB, OK)
