DAT 12/24 and Sbackup
Hi!
Our client have a Compaq server:
- Proliant ML370 (System ROM Version: 09/27/2000)
- Intergrated Raid Module
- 3 hard disk connected to integrated smart array controller (RAID-5)
- 12/24 Comapaq DAT Drive connected to integrated smart array controller (to a different channel than disks are)
Network operating system installed on this server:
- Netware 4.11 (Service Pack 9)
The problem consist of using the native Novell Netware Sbackup in order to backup data.
Few minute after launching Sbackup the process is interrupted and the following error are display on the screen:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
2-20-01 08:10:20am (SBACKUP-4.20a-110) An error occured during SBACKUP's
attempt to write to media: (SMSDI v 1.0 334) The transfer Buffers have
been received out of order from the OS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
By our selfs we have tested olmost the same configuration and Sbackup did work.
The only difference as shown in Sample 1 and Sample 2 is the driver, the client have
an extended integrated controller with ROC (raid module) which obligated to load
the driver CPQARRAY.HAM and in our case we didn't have the CPQARRAY.HAM driver
loaded but instead we had CPQSCSI.HAM. We would like to inform you that we have been
told that the Compaq DAT 12/24 does not support native Netware Sbackup software.
We count on you to provide as with the right stuff (solution) to sort out this problem.
THX

Re: DAT 12/24 and Sbackup
I've got exactly the same problem.
We got a new ML370 Server installed. with Netware 4.11, with a DDS4 dat 20/40 Compaq Tape drive. Using Sbackup, and get the same Transfer Buffers error as u describe.
I contacted Novell, and they say its a Compaq Hardware Problem, so over to you guys....

Re: DAT 12/24 and Sbackup
I eventually got a DAT12/24 working in a ProLiant ML370 yesterday.
Had tried using onboard SCSI - no go.
Had tried using Adaptec 2940U2W - no go.
Had tried three different tape drives - no go.
Had tried updating firmware on tape drive and SCSI card - no go.
Had tried updating drivers - no go.
Tried using an old Adaptec AHA2940 to drive the tape drive (a C1554A unit) - SUCCESS!!!
If you can't get it to go, try setting the "Send Start Unit Command" (or similar - I can't remember) in the card's config. to "Yes".
Thanks Compaq & HP for your continued support of reliable, fast, well-established operating systems. We've wasted ├В┬г500 on a DAT20/40 that we cannot use (why claim to have support for NetWare 4.X when you only support 4.2 and above?) and had to dig out one of our old HP DDS3 drives (most of which seem to be faulty) so that the server could be backed u
