DIMM installation rule for G6 ??

ProLiant G6 start to support DDR3 DIMM. And, it should only allow a group of 3 DIMMs at once, isn't it??

However, while using 'HP DDR3 Memory Configuration Tool', and the result proposes 2 DIMMs for a config of 12GB total. (see as attachement)

So, what exact the right rule to install DIMM in a Proliant G6??

Re: DIMM installation rule for G6 ??

For a small DL380G6 with 4GB RAM, the tool propose to order only one DIMM 500660-B21 -- HP 4GB Reg 1x4GB Quad Rank RDIMM Memory kit.

Is it Ok to run ??

Re: DIMM installation rule for G6 ??

If the configurator says it's ok then it probably is.

I would recommend that you at least add 6 gb to your config. 3x2 gb to make use of the DDR3 and the three channels that are avalible.

The most important rule of the DDR3 is to add the exact same amount of Memory to the channel.

Re: DIMM installation rule for G6 ??

hi,

the configurator is very well,

but if you are not sure if its ok or if the preformance of the memmory will not so optimized, in your case you should call to HP to handle your questions.

The rules are pretty simple and as mentioned in the attached document.
