DL 380 G3 - Mirroring after replaced HDD not starting
Hi!
On a DL 380 G3 (W2K server) one of two 143,8 GB hot plug HDD failed and was replaced. Now mirroring doesn't start automatically.
The remaining HDD has SCSI ID 5, the failed one ID 12 and the replaced one now ID 4.
How to get the mirroring starting?
Thanks in advance
Michaela

Re: DL 380 G3 - Mirroring after replaced HDD not starting
Hi Michaela,
The DL380G3 SCSI ID's are normally 0,1,2,3,4,5 in Simplex mode from bottom right to top left looking from the front. It sounds like the defective drive has had a stuck ID bit (bit 3), creating the situation where the normal backplane assigned ID always has 8 added to it.
I'm not sure if there is a way round it by adding another drive to the mirror using ACU and assigning the one at SCSI ID 4. Worst case you may have to backup the data on the good drive, remove the mirror and recreate it using the two good drives. If the faulty disk did have a stuck bit it's odd that no-one spotted this when creating the arrays. Internal SCSI cable checks might also be worthwhile. Get HP to investigate if it's still under warranty/contract.
I hope this helps.
