DL 380 G3, PCI hba and Ultrium 960 - BUS question

Hi,

We've just bought 2 Ultrium 960 LTO 3 drives. We'd like to install them (both) on our DL 380 G3 server. We understand that we'll get better performance with an Ultra320 HBA such as the 374654-B21 single channel but someone mentioned to me that having 2 of these may be an issue if both share the same bus. Is that a problem?

I notice looking at the user manual for this server that it appears that 2 of the PCI slots share the same bus? Does that mean in theory I only get half the benefit? I guess I should try to put the 2 cards in the slots with different Buses ? It is tough to find information about this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Regards,

Paul

Yes,As per the recommendations Ensure the Ultra320 SCSI HBA for the tape drive is placed on a dedicated 133-MHz PCI-X bus and is not sharing the bus with other HBAs.

This is mentioned in the white paper and is available here:

Re: DL 380 G3, PCI hba and Ultrium 960 - BUS question

That is very useful, thanks. Hadn't seen that before. Interestingly we spoke to HP (via our reseller) yesterday as we noticed that 1 of our slots is 100 Mhz, the two 133mhz PCI-x slots are on the same bus - they advised it is ok to put 2 of these cards with one in a 133mhz and the other in a 100mhz.... is that ok too? Better than having 2 in the 2 slots that use the same bus?

Thanks!
