DL 380 G4 Forgotten Bios Password

Hi there,
I need to remove the bios password on one of these servers. Unfortunately it was setup by a long gone staff member who didn't leave a record.
Can anyone advise if this is possible?
thanks

Hi Matthew Franks

You need to look for the System Maintenance Switch(called Clean NVRAM), see the attached file

- Power off server, unplugged the power cable.
- Open the server.
- Look for System Maintenance Switch
- Switch number 6, put it ON
- Power on the server.
- leave for 2 minutes
- Power off the server and plugged the power cable
- Power on the server.

regards

I have also found that it works to remove the CMOS battery (it's round and silver; slightly smaller than a US quarter). I left it overnight, but probably something like 10 minutes is long enough before reinserting the battery and repowering and rebooting.

Re: DL 380 G4 Forgotten Bios Password

Hi,

No need to clear NVRAM using the switch or by removing the battery

The server has a switch just to Clear power-on password and adminstrator password in BIOS.

page 79 and 80 ( number 5 BTW...)

Re: DL 380 G4 Forgotten Bios Password

Hi Matt,
Will this work also when you forget the Windows Server 2008 log in password? I am the owner and administrator of my server and I cannot log on because I forgot my password!
Thanks

For Windows admin login, Google on "Windows password recovery" and you can find stuff like bootable ISO images that you can burn to CD.
