DL 380 G4 Rebooting Randomly

This system (378740-001) has been unchanged and stable for the past 4 months. All of the sudden it has started randomly rebooting. No blue screen, no dump log available. I've happened to have witnessed it, it simply restarts. No "System Shutting down..", the video simply turns off and then it starts up. NOTHING in the Event Viewer leading up to the "unexpected crash" or anything to note logged when the system comes back up..

I've..

- Applied the latest PSS
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24184.html

- The latest ROM update
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/25232.html

- Dowloaded the latest SmartStart CD (7.6) and run the full offline Insight diagnostics, with all items passing. Health LEDs on front and on the system board by "Status" are green.

- Run MS memory diagnostics as well, with passing results.

- At the latest Windows SP and updates. 2k3 Ent w/SP1.

I've called into HP TS and haven't had much luck their either, I happened to mention that I saw another posting here that mentioned they had a problem with the "power injector" on their DL 380 G3 and now they are sending me...

316052-001
DC power converter module with backplane - Used with 3.06GHZ or 3.20GHz processors

and..

333112-001
Dual hot-plug redundant power supply backplane board

Which now that I'm researching them don't appear to be applicable to my system! That power supply backplane is the same one from my old 1850R and some of the 380 G1's. And we have a 3.6Ghz processor, so those VRMs I believe are the wrong part number?? Ahhh!

I think I'd probably want to try this part?

361667-001
Power supply DC converter circuit module
REQUIRES RETURN OF DEFECTIVE PART

Help anyone!

Re: DL 380 G4 Rebooting Randomly

Hello Greg,

I have come across couple instances where couple of leds on the system board is amber and server reboots.

Reseat the power converter module and check.
Else replace the same.

Re: DL 380 G4 Rebooting Randomly

We replaced the part (361667-001) yesterday and it's still up and running, so it appears that was it! Also, looking at the part we removed a couple of the pins on the end of ATX connector looked a bit scorched!
