Hello,
I have a ProLiant DL380 G5 I want to upgrade to 16GB of RAM.
Currently, there are 8GB installed: 4 sticks @ 2GBs placed in slots 1,3,5 and 7.
My idea was to add 2 more modules with 4GB each (PC2-5300F 4 GB 398708-061).
Is that possible? If yes, what would the layout have to look like to support this configuration?
Thanks!

Re: DL 380 G5 memory upgrade
Hi,
Refer to the Server QuickSpecs first.
When upgrading memory, DIMMs 1A and 3A must match. DIMMs 5B and 7B, DIMMs 2C and 4C, and DIMMs 6D and 8D must match and must be installed as a pair.
1A FBDIMM 1A (Slot 1, Bank A, Branch 0) 2GB
2C FBDIMM 2C (Slot 2, Bank C, Branch 0) 2GB
3A FBDIMM 3A (Slot 3, Bank A, Branch 0) 2GB
4C FBDIMM 4C (Slot 4, Bank C, Branch 0) 2GB
5B FBDIMM 5B (Slot 5, Bank B, Branch 1) 4GB
6D FBDIMM 6D (Slot 6, Bank D, Branch 1)
7B FBDIMM 7B (Slot 7, Bank B, Branch 1) 4GB
8D FBDIMM 8D (Slot 8, Bank D, Branch 1)
The above information is an example, here 16GB is equally divided into two branches. I hope it works.
Thank You!

Re: DL 380 G5 memory upgrade
Worked like a charm ... thanks again!
Now, just out of curiosity and to make sure I got this straight, if I were to add another 8GBs, would I have to place the sticks like this:
1A - 4 GB
2B - 2 GB
3A - 4 GB
4B - 2 GB
5C - 4 GB
6D- 2 GB
7C - 4 GB
8D- 2 GB
So I would - again - have equal amounts on both branches. Is that correct?
Cheers,
Patrick
