DL 385 Raid Configuration

I've got a DL385 with 3 140gb disks on controller 2 using raid 5 and 2 72gb disks on controller 1 using raid 0+1.

There's currently an empty slot on controller 2. Is it possible to put another 140gb disk on controller 2 and use it as a failover for either of the two existing raid arrays?

Generally, what are the available raid options for this particular machine?

Thanks in advance

Re: DL 385 Raid Configuration

Hello Cary,

Yes, You may Add another controller to the sever; However, making it a HOT spare for a complete raid failover is not possible.

Raid 0, 1 0+1, 5.

Re: DL 385 Raid Configuration

Just to clarify. If I add a disk to the empty slot on controller 2 I can use it as a hotspare for the raid array already on that controller (raid 5), but I cannot use it as a hotspare for the array on controller 1 (raid 0+1). Is this correct?

Re: DL 385 Raid Configuration

No Cary,

A HDD can be assigned as a HOT Spare to a raid (A) only if its on the Same Controller(A).

Controller (A) will not See HDD Connected to Controller (B)

James.
