DL120 G5 Fail to post after bios update

Hi, hoping someone can help.

1) updated bios to latest cp014220.exe from within server 2008 R2.

2) rebooted system.

3) no post

4) System status LED on front panel Green for about 10 seconds.

5) System status LED on front panel then flashing red (Manual only mentions amber)

6) Both System and CPU fan failure LED lit green on system board, all fans running normal (screaming).

I do not believe this is a fan failure issue ( both a cpu and system fan failure on same reboot??? this is a low hour system, only about 2 weeks running time over last 6 months) - I suspect this is a bad flash or problem with the bios default settings.

Tried Clear Cmos No change

Tried boot with Boot block Jumper on 2-3 to configure bios - no change

Tried flashing bios from bootable usb from SP51265.exe Systems ROMPaq Boot Block jumper removed - no change

Removed power for 10 mins - no change.

Not sure what to try next.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Were you able to fix your problem?
I am having the same issue as you and I was hoping that you came up with a solution.

Thanks.

Re: DL120 G5 Fail to post after bios update

Hi

I have the same problem but was able to fix it following this procedure.

Updating/recovering the system BIOS
Use the JP5 jumper to enable the boot block.
•  1 –2: Normal operation (default)
•  2 – 3: Configure BIOS
•  Removed: Access the boot blockcode

1.  Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support and download the System ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade
Utilityfor your ProLiant server.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3683233&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3683232&taskId=135

select operating system and dowload the bios Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade for HP ProLiant DL120 G5 Servers (For USB Key-Media)

2.  Open the file, you can either create a bootable ROMPaq diskette or bootable usb thumb drive  which should contain
the followingfiles:
○  CPQO2202.xxx
○  CPQSRVR2.cpu
○  ROMPAQ.exe
3.  Removethe PCI riser boardassembly.
4.  Locate the boot blockjumper on the system board.
5.  Removethe jumper block.
6.  Connectthe USB floppy drive with the bootable ROMPaq disketteto or USB thumb drive to your ProLiant server  ( I use a thumb drive and connect it to systemboard usb port located next to system fan connector)

7. Once you power on the server, it will boot fromthe USB floppy drive/thumb drive and automatically execute
BIOS update/recovery. The process will takeapproximately 20 to 30 minutes. When the USB
floppy drive activity LED stops blinking, the process is complete.
8. Turn it off  and  remove the USB floppy drive or thumb drive from theserver.
9.  Return the jumper block to its default 1-2 position.
10. Power it on and start praying.

I hope this help and good luck.

Re: DL120 G5 Fail to post after bios update

Anybody with a solution for this problem?

I have the same problem. The servers has been running for 6hrs in the past, didn't use it till now.

We have the same situation:

- Stripped everything to the necessary hardware (CPU, 1 DIMM)

- It doesn't to into POST at all

- When we connect the power cable a LED starts flashing next to the UID on the back, LED6

- Boot the server and after about 20 seconds the CPU and System failure LED's go on and stay on

Tried everything from ROMpaq via USB and Floppy on USB, changed the PSU, refitted the CPU, ...

Can anybody help?
