DL120 G6 RAID?

DL120 G6 RAID?

I've got a DL120 G6 (581874-005) and I'm having a hard time getting and OS to install with RAID setup. If I disable RAID (in the BIOS), I can install without a problem using the OS CD. The EasyStart cd (1.0 or 2.2) never work. They'll boot up and get to a blank screen with a mouse cursor.

I've spent 5 hours on the phone with HP and they've replaced the system board, but we can't get it to work. With RAID enabled, the OS wants a driver and when I give it the driver, it just acts as though I never gave it a driver. Tried 6.6.2 and 6.8.0 for the drivers. BIOS is 026 01/26/2010.

It shouldn't be this difficult, but I'm wondering if there are any known issues.

Hi,

You can download and extract raid controller driver in to a USB Flash memory and you can select that driver during OS installation when it is asked (hard drive)

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

My first step was to download and attempt to install the correct drivers. We certainly covered that base in 5 hours on the phone with HP support. The problem is that the install doesn't recognize the driver/hardware connection. When I load the driver, the checkbox next to "hide drivers for hardware that is not supported" is checked and the driver doesn't show up. If I uncheck the box, the driver shows up but attempting to install it just brings me back to the load driver screen and it never sees a hard disk.

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

hmm disable raid in bios then install on one disk

tip easy setup cd is not for onboard sata controllers..

now in windows install the raid controller driver so we have windows with raid driver but no raid..

and raid enable din bios,..
and voila we have raid enjoy :)

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

I had seen that procedure detailed elsewhere and I had tried it. Installing on one drive is no problem. Installing the driver in Windows presents a problem. Simply running HP's executable to install the driver results in a message saying that the required hardware is not present. Trying to add the driver through the add hardware wizard doesn't recognize the driver. Should I be installing the driver as an update on an existing piece of hardware in Device Manager?

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

If that's the case, I'm thoroughly confused as to why HP can't tell me that.

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

And if it has no RAID, why is there a Smart Array B110i banner in the POST where I can hit F8 to create a logical drive?

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

i will try to get soem clarification as the quickspecs on 100 series servers appear to be incorrect for some of them as the previous link showed

are both disks sas/sata can u confirm this
do you have latest firmware on sys board and controller

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

Two SATA disks. The BIOS is the latest. From what I've seen and been told, there is no firmware update for this storage controller. Not at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3984622&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3984621&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4024#29217 anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if there is no RAID but HP can't tell me that. Since I see the B110i banner, they say I must have RAID. If there is no RAID, I need a different server. HP Sales, reseller and HP Support seem to think I have RAID.

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

do you have signal and power cable on both drives if they are not hot plug type

if so get new cables or reseat them what happens now

if you have hot plug backplane ensure cables are seated reseat them .too

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

This is NHP. I had tried new cables, new drives, new system board. I'm giving up on this one and sending it back for a G5. As I said in my original post, it shouldn't be this difficult. This is a very simple activity.

I figured it out by buying a G5. Worked like a charm. Smooth and simple.

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

I spoke to HP Support, the current boot/setup CD (v2.20) isn't compatible with the latest flash bios (01/26/2010)
HP will be releasing a new boot cd "soon"
IN the meantime, configre RAID in BIOS and then F8 on the B110i SATA configuration to create logical drive.
Insert Windows CD and build away.
I have done this with a DL120G6

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

Hi,

To enable RAID on DL120G6 on Windows 2008 Server R2, customers need to download and install the latest System ROM and Storage Driver, enable B110i on RBSU and re-configure HDD via ACU or ORCA.

Here are links to each drivers to download and install:

Re: DL120 G6 RAID?

I just recieved 3 DL120 G6's slapped in 4 500GB drives each. Went into BIOS enabled RAID on the Drive Configuration. Hit F7 for Default Raid Setup on the Controller Raid 1+0, plopped in my Windows 2003 R2 Install cd and it saw everything just fine. I didnt need to load any software or Drivers. I didnt use the CD.

You may want to go into the BIOS and enable Virtual Install Disk. It contains all your Hardware drivers the system will need to install windows without the Boot CD.
