DL120 G6 doesn't start (soon) and doesn't keep cmos settings, no fail detected

Hi All!

I have a  DL120G6 server, CPU G6950, RAM 2x1GB.
It has not been used for months, now I need it but I have some problems.
At every boot, all CMOS values are cleared, so ... no RAID, no IPMI/BMC.
The RTC-Battery signed 2.9v so I changed with a new 3.3v one, but nothing changed.

It hangs on SERVER ASSET TEXT message for a while (10 minutes at least!) then it starts.
When I put a cable into BMC net-port nothing happens (no lights) and no DHCP-request are sent on LAN.

Version of firmwares was : ILO 4.22A, BIOS O26 2011.04.14A
Now I updated them to: ILO 4.26A, BIOS O26 2013.07.01A
Nothing has changed.

There are no red-leds (not in front, not on board).
There are no messages at startup.

I really don't know what to think (and what to try), give me any idea, please.

Not replies, yet ... :(

I think the problem could be corrupted BMC data, that prevent system to correctly comunicate and cause mess at startup.

I'm trying to access ILO data with lo100cfg/ipmitool/ipmiutil and I can see that some info are not locally accessible , because of insufficient privileges, and I think they should be (BMC-LAN settings for example)

Here some output, I think it's not the correct response to my requests:

C:\Temp>lo100cfg.exe -s

Lights Out 100 command error : 0xd4.

Re: DL120 G6 doesn't start (soon) and doesn't keep cmos settings, no fail detected

Use the maintenance switch 6 and reset the system to factory defaults.  I think the dedicated BMC port on that system was an option, so the BMC could be in shared mode which uses NIC port1.  The DL120 G6 has the HP Lights-Out 100i (lo100i) and not HP iLO.

Re: DL120 G6 doesn't start (soon) and doesn't keep cmos settings, no fail detected

Thanks for your reply.

The LO100i of DL120G6 has a dedicated port (there are 3 NICs, nic1 nic2 nicMgmt). It has been used it for years without any problem, then swithced off.

Now I have to use it and somghint in the IPMI/BMC interface is bricked.

With OpenIpmi tools (on linux) I can modify users but every access to FRU or LAN or other settings give a 0xD4 insufficent privileges.

Explain me about SW6. I cannot find it on board (and not on manual).

I have an SW4 System Maintenance Switch with this layout

S1 Off = Normal | On = Clears the BIOS CMOS and rests the administrator password.
S2 Off = Normal BIOS boot block | On = Recovery BIOS boot block
S3 Off = Disables the RAID key | On = Enables the RAID key.
S4 Off Reserved
S5 Off Reserved
S6 Off Reserved
S7 Off Reserved
S8 Off Reserved

I found all OFF, and already tried to clear CMOS but nothing changed.
There is no FACTORY DEFAULT switch, as I know.

I also tried with BMC RECOVERY MODE, and oddly when in recovery mode cmos settings are saved correctly! but of course there ILO not enabled.

Re: DL120 G6 doesn't start (soon) and doesn't keep cmos settings, no fail detected

Since this is a proliant "light" only, it works different compared to ther proliants.

S1 on clears the BIOS.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Setting S1 to on, cause system not to start, when you set back to off it restart with BIOS settings cleared, but BMC settings seems untouched.
I can see old ilo-user I tried to set with ipmi and still insufficent privileges to almost all request.
