DL140 Auto Power On...

I am currently installing an HP Proliant DL140, which appears to be behaving rather strangely. I have switched it off the last two nights, and when I get in the following morning it is switched on!!!!

Looking in the log, it switched itself on at 1 minute past midnight each time.

There appears to be no configuration option for this (I disabled Wake on LAN, but it still did it). I don't expect it to be an issue for the customer as it will be left running all the time. All the same it is a little worrying.

Can anyone advise why this is happening?

Re: DL140 Auto Power On...

Hi Greg,

Is the server connected into a UPS or PDU?

If the server is off and you unplug it and plug it back in does it power on?

Re: DL140 Auto Power On...

Hi Nathan,

The server is plugged directly into the wall and does not auto power when plugged in.

I have seen this issue with Dell desktops - they have an auto power on schedule in the BIOS, but I have never seen it on a server.

Re: DL140 Auto Power On...

Greg, that is rather bizarre.

Check out this article it may have something to do with what your experienceing.

When you say its on is it just the fan or is the system up with video?

I'd also try to flash the BIOS on the server which can be found here :

Re: DL140 Auto Power On...

The problem will be gone once you have updated the systrem bios with the latest rompaq.

Updated the following:

BroadCom NetXtreme Ethernet Boot Agent Option ROM.

P4 F25/F29 CPU micro code.

The CPU speed always use the available maximum value.

Serial Redirection Module.
Resolved the following:

Issue with degraded system performance with 4GB of memory installed.

Issue with server powering on automatically at midnight.
