DL140 Fan Noise

I hope someone can help. I purchased a Proliant DL140 1U rack server several years ago. I've insalled windows advanced server 2000.

The FAN noise is starting to drive me crazy. Is there anything that I can do to calm the fams down? right from start-up, the fans run at full blast and sound like a jet taking off. This didn't really bother me until recently but I know that there must be something that can be done to fix this.

Is there some software that I need installed to correct the issue?

Re: DL140 Fan Noise

Hi,

Try installing the latest Proliant Support Pack (PSP) for your server.

That should load the relevant software to slow the fans down.

You don't mention which variant of DL140, so search for the right version from the Support & Drivers section of www.hp.com

Cheers,

Rob

Re: DL140 Fan Noise

Thanks. I don't see any service pack. This is for the DL140 only not the G2 or G3.

Can you direct me to the service pack?

Thanks,

Re: DL140 Fan Noise

The ProLiant Support Pack value-added software doesn't apply to the 100 series. Your DL140 has hardware control of the fans through the baseboard management controller. No software is required.

Re: DL140 Fan Noise

Thanks. I found the problem. Dirty fans....I took the fans out and cleaned them real good.....they were covered in dust. 10 Times quieter now.
