DL140 G3 Heatsink - new CPU old heatsink

I obtained a E5150+heatsink for the BL480C G1 blade kit. This heatsink does not fit in the DL140G3, so I anticipate using the existing heatsink on my E5050 (which the 5150 is replacing). I notice on the BL480C heatsink, there is already paste pre-applied and quite thick.

How/What is the best method to apply the thermal paste when I re-use the DL140G3 heatsink?. put it on the heatsink or the cpu ?, how thick. Unfortunately, the video for cpu replacement tells me nothing about the thermal paste

many thanks, this is a great forum

hi

it's in the CPU you must use the thermal grease and use it gracefully

check this video for the heatsink and processor

Hi,

Try the procedure for the DL140 G2 which actually shows the application of the thermal paste to the cpu. It's almost identical to the DL140 G3 procedure but different CPU chips obviously.

Go here and select "Processor and Heatsink"

I hope this helps.
